Top Uses For GPS In Transport Trade
New GPS devices are giving vehicle fleet companies more power than ever before. Previously most GPS or Sat Nav devices could give a driver information about their speed, geographical location, direction etc. This is the kind of data that can now be read on a computer screen on the other side on the globe, making everyone's job easier. A taxi company or travel company for instance would benefit enormously. Lets look at the main advantages of these GPS systems
Speeding. The velocity of the vehicle has previously just been for eyes of the driver but now the bosses can see too. Some devices can show if the driver is accelerating or breaking too aggressively. This is great for reducing poor driving standards among the fleet and promoting safe practice. As excessive speeding accounts for almost all accidents on the road today, this can only be a good thing.
Petrol. Stats released by Jump The Sun show that drivers, especially in the taxi business, would claim petrol money from their employers for miles that were covered whilst not on work hours. Employers could previously look at the tachometer of the vehicle but drivers would argue that they had to take a longer route due to traffic etc. Now however, there can be no arguments as employer can see the exact route drivers took, when they took it and at what speed. The latest traffic information can also be fed into them
Location. Knowing the location of each of your team on the road is invaluable for speeder responses. There is no longer a need to call each and every driver to find their location, you can just look at a computer map and send the nearest vehicle to the location.

MOTOACTV torn down and rooted, turned into a tablet for ants (Engadget)
Chris Wade, the intrepid dev behind the DingleBerry PlayBook hack, has turned
his attention to new device. One that occupies the exact opposite end of the
size spectrum -- the MOTOACTV. The man started poking around inside the
Android-powered sports watch, actually tearing it open and splaying its
innards across his palm for all of us to see. Under the hood he discovered an
OMAP 3630 clocked at 600MHz and 256MB of RAM. Then he put the whole thing back
together and the real fun began. Wade managed root the underlying Gingerbread
platform and turn it from a GPS tracker to 1.6-inch tablet by sideloading the
stock Honeycomb launcher. Wade even managed to bless the tiny device with
Market access, allowing him to install a certain title featuring a flock of
furious fowl. You'll find a few more photos in the gallery below and a video
of the hacked up sports watch cum micro-tablet after the break. If you're
looking to create your own super-charge Android wristwear hit up the source
link for instructions from the so-called "bad boy of IT."
