SELF STORAGE - TIPS FOR A SMOOTH MOVE
There are some people who spend their lives collecting stuff, and there are others who live without. But even if you're not a hoarder, you're still likely to need a storage facility during your life.
From moving home, moving offices or changing to a minimalist look at home but can't part with anything to putting away goods that aren't immediately needed, self-storage is often the best way to do it.
It's a good idea to invest some time planning your move and storing your things in an organised, disciplined way - you'll be thankful you did. Here are a few hints to streamline the process and importantly, to help you find the proverbial needle in the haystack if you need to !
SOME GENERAL HINTS
* Look for butcher's paper or unprinted newspaper for wrapping items, as newsprint can soil your things
* Photograph valuable items for insurance
* Arrange copies of passports, visas, birth certificates etc and keep in a separate place
* Pack a home 'room by room' and keep contents as close together as possible for easy unpacking
• Have a designated ‘necessities’ box which can be unpacked first and which contains vital items such as adapter plugs, screwdriver, remote controls for TVs etc, a set of linen for each bed that will need to be made up on the first night, torch, candle
BOXES
* Boxes should be the same size and should not be too big, as they get too heavy and impossible to move
* Clearly label all boxes. You could also number the boxes and keep a list of what's contained in each box in a separate location.Another suggestion from EzyStorage, a Perth self storage unit company, is to pack each room into boxes with a specific coloured label eg. green labels for MD's office, blue for receptionist etc.
• Add a few naphthalene balls to each box
* Seal boxes securely with packing tape
• Stack boxes with the labels facing OUT !
* Use pallets for storing boxes on so they don't absorb moisture from the concrete floor
OTHER ITEMS
* Books should always be packed flat to protect the spines
* Store anything with a glass front (mirrors, pictures, paintings etc) upright or on their side, never flat
* All batteries should be taken out of appliances, toys etc
* Silver and brass items should be wrapped in acid-free paper to avoid tarnishing
* All metal, cast iron or chrome items (eg bikes, lawnmowers etc) should be wiped down with a rag and a few drops of machine oil to prevent rust
* Drain petrol or other flammable materials, and empty gas bottles
* Clean fridges and freezers before storing, and ensure they are totally dry.Whilst in storage, the doors should be kept slightly open
• Clothing and curtains should be hung on hangers if possible
FURNITURE
* Sofas and mattresses shouldn't be stored flat, but on their end
* Remove table legs and wrap carefully - and if that's not possible, store tables upside down.
* Remove the keys from any doors, draws etc. securely to the inside of the item
PACKING THE SELF STORAGE UNIT
* Always keep a central aisle open
* Always store items that you may require access to at the front of the unit
* Valuable items should be stored at the back of the unit
* Consider low-cost shelving to create more storage space which is easily accessible
* Use a plastic sheet or cotton dust sheet to cover your things
Follow these hints for a hassle-free storage experience.Self storage is cost-effective, easy to use and flexible. And more and more people are opting for self storage for both their domestic and commercial requirements say a top supplier of storage units in Perth, EzyStorage.
I have an interesting knife and would like to know if anyone can tell me more about the history and value.?
The over all length is 11 inches. Fixed blade with a 'bone saw' on the top. It has a blood groove in the blade. It has the name Anton Wingen Jr.(Soligen Germany) on one side of the blade and a face of a man with the word Soligen on the other. The case is leather and had the (comedy tragedy symbol)and the word that is used in theaters and the word "Othello"stamped into it. It has a bone (or like an horn or antler material) handle with brass pins connecting the 2 sides..
It is a very beautiful knife with a very highly shiny metal (chrome like) blade. My father got this when he was a young soldier in Korea.
Any information including links would be appreciated.
I have found some information on Anton Wingen Jr. , and some of his knives, but never with the connection of the 'Othello" word or the 'bone-saw' on the blade.
Looks kinda like this?

Wingen made knifes and blades in Germany around WW2 through the 90's when he retired
One of his designs was selected for the bayonet for the Mauser M98
The Othello name was his trademark

Joey Ruiter's mirror-finished Moto Undone may be as aerodynamic as a big shiny
brick, but it's also virtually invisible. And this makes it -- obviously --
awesome. Moto is an electric motorcycle inside a block of polished metal. Its
1000w 48v electric hub motor will run for three hours, or around 90 miles, and
runs silently. [...]
