Paying Attention To Personal Protection Security
Do not be stressed or afraid the next time you are driving or walking in a new area. Pay attention to your personal protection security, and you will minimize the effect of an assault or attack.
Personal Protection Security on Foot
When you are running or walking through a new or dangerous area, pay attention to your surroundings. To start with, if you are alone, don't enter a place where you are completely blocked from view of passing traffic or residential or business properties. If possible, run or walk with a partner; if you cannot find a human partner, think about running with a big dog which will intimidate anyone tempted to try to assault you.
Taking personal protection security classes will build your confidence and give you valuable self defensive ways. Ideally you will never be close enough to an assailant to exercise these methods, but if the worst does happen, you will be happy you have useful tools with which to fight an attacker.
Have a non-lethal defensive device, such as pepper spray, with you when you walk or run. Keep in mind, however, that you generally only get one opportunity to use a pepper spray with an attacker, and you have to take care to prevent your assailant from taking possession of this device and using this against you. Make certain you're upwind from the person you're spraying. Get aim and press the nozzle hard. Be prepared to run once the grip loosens.
Carrying a gun while running or walking is risky business and is an ill advised personal protection security measure. For one thing, you need a particular license in most states to carry a gun instead of merely having a gun. You should also use fireproof gun safes or perhaps used gun safes for protecting your guns from curious people in your home. For another, the effects of your attacker taking the gun away and using it on you are far more significant than they would be with mere pepper spray.
Personal Protection Security in the Car
Keep your car doors locked at all times, whether you're driving, parked in a parking lot, parked on the street, or parked in your own garage or on the street where you live. Don't open your window or door for anyone except a uniformed police officer or a close family friend or member of the family whom you know well.
Satellite assistance devices like OnStar are a great personal protection security aid. If you're able to afford it, equip your car with one of these devices to improve your protection.
