how to get sleek shiny hair? recommendations on products?

i need a blow dryer like from ULTA or something that will help with frizz when i blow dry it, then i straighten it, but i have really thivk hair but with thinned layers. and it doesnt matter the price at all. idc if its like 200 blow dryer or product i really need new ones. my step mom is an international hair artist and she cuts my hair and gives it highlights, but i cant ask her becuase she wont tell me how, and i dont like J beverly hills products (the only one she has for free) so does anyone else know good products for the following?:

The right products do help, but having a knack for doing your own hair is an even bigger help.

For shiny hair, I don't buy expensive salon crap... I use Pantene Ice Shine shampoo & conditioner. I alternate this with the John Freda line (brilliant brunette).

Before blow drying my hair, I use a dime-sized amount of Logic or Diamond Shine hair serum. I use my fingers to comb it through damp hair, then blow dry in sections, using a brush with widely-spaced bristles.

If I decide to flat iron, I do it in small sections, with the iron on the diagonal. Afterward, I finish things off by using got2B Defiant pommade. I moisten my fingers, and comb them through my hair to stop fly-aways and add additional shine.

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a silky, shiny look.

As for high-lights, I will only have them done by a professional in a salon (I have seen so many bad at-home jobs). When you call for the appointment, act knowledgeable. Ask what brands of colorant they use, and also ask the name of their best colorist. If they say something lame like "all our stylists are great" slam the phone and run like hell. In every salon, there are 1 or 2 people who are truly gifted with color... and those are the people you want.
